Tuttle Orchards: The Perfect Family Weekend Activity

tuttleorchard2So often I hear people (more specifically my kids) say that they are bored or that there is nothing to do around here.  I think the real issue is that we so easily overlook some of the local gems in our own community.  One of these spectacular gems located in Greenfield is Tuttle Orchards.  If you have been there you can certainly vouch for my enthusiasm and if you haven’t I guarantee it is one of those places that once you go it will become a yearly visit.  The fall is a particularly spectacular time to go.  Not only do they have a sprawling pumpkin patch but they have activities to keep the entire family entertained.  They have a kids play area, an agrimaze (educational corn maze experience), farm animal viewing, tuttleorchard1hayrides, an area to pick your own sunflowers, a sprawling apple orchard, an observation bee hive, plus their delicious farm store and sweet shop.  The entirety of Tuttle Orchard is a beautiful setting (perfect for some much needed family photos) and really does offer an educational experienced disguised as fun! So next time you start thinking that there is nothing to do or your kids are glued firmly to the tv and computer why not spend a day exploring the fall beauty that exists right around you!

Stuckey Farm: A Way to Fully Enjoy the Fall Season

stuckeyfarmIf you are looking for a very “fall” activity that is perfect for the whole family just head out to Stuckey Farm on Hamilton Boone County Rd. in Sheridan.  This sprawling family farm offers an array of fresh fruits and vegetables but even more exciting is the experience that you get by visiting.  This is the ideal place to bring your kids and let them pick their own produce, find the ideal pumpkin, or learn about Indiana’s agricultural history.  Plus, beginning in September they will be starting their Harvest Festival.  stuckeyfarm2What this means is that for every weekend between Sept 27th and the final weekend in October there will be theme weekends of family fun.  The themes range from James Whitcomb Riley Apple Weekend to Pioneer Weekend to Halloween Weekend.  There will be activities and events for the whole family and you will be helping to support a very worthwhile local business! I hope to see you out there!
